Seluruh warga dan keluarga Pejabat Suruhanjaya Tinggi Malaysia ke Afrika Selatan terkejut dengan berita yang dilaporkan oleh akhar tempatan pada 23 Februari 2009. Berita tersebut sungguh mengaibkan kami dan memalukan Kerajaan Malaysia secara keseluruhannya. Berikut adalah keratan artikel yang disiarkan oleh akhbar tersebut "The Beeld" setelah diterjemahkan kedalam Bahasa Inggeris kerana ianya ditulis dalam Bahasa Afrikaans..

'Drunk diplomat's wife' kills man

Johannesburg - The wife of a Malaysian diplomat allegedly killed a man when she collided with him as he was checking the faulty engine of his stationary vehicle on the N1 in Roodepoort early on Saturday morning.

Bystanders say the 37-year-old woman was drunk, but she cannot be prosecuted because she has diplomatic immunity.

A source at the scene of the accident said a man arrived in a vehicle with diplomatic number plates shortly after the woman had called him on the phone. Another source saw the man removing empty liquor bottles from the boot of the woman's white Renault Clio and hiding them under his jacket.

Beeld was told by a reliable source that the woman from Florida North on the West Rand was travelling on the N1 South in the direction of 14th Avenue when the accident happened at about 01:00 on Saturday.

 

Hit from behind

 

Adonis Ndudule, 24, from Ormonde View in the south of Johannesburg, stopped a few hundred metres before the 14th Avenue offramp when the engine of his Volkswagen Beetle started giving trouble. His neighbour's daughter, Sharon Mphofu, 22, was with him in the car.

A member of ER24's emergency services apparently passed the Beetle just before the accident and had seen the car with its flashing hazards parked in the emergency lane.

Ndudule was inspecting the engine, which is mounted in the rear of the Volkswagen Beetle, when he was hit from behind by the Clio. He died on impact.

An employee of a towing service said the driver of the Clio was so wobbly she couldn't stand on her feet and sat down on the railing next to the road. Then she gave her cellphone to someone else and said in English: "Here! Talk to him!"

The man identified himself as her husband and ordered bystanders to immediately bring his wife home. When his request was not heeded, he arrived shortly afterwards and removed the bottles from the Clio.

A search on the eNaTIS vehicle system revealed that the Clio was registered to the Malaysian embassy.

 

Case of manslaughter

 

A member of the metro police on the scene said the woman told them she had done everything possible to avoid the collision. "We were not allowed to arrest her at the scene - even though she may have been reckless - because she has diplomatic immunity," said Inspector Edna Mamonyane, Johannesburg' s metro police spokesperson.

A case of manslaughter was opened at the Honeydew police station on the West Rand on Sunday afternoon. Once the investigation is complete, it will be referred to the Malaysian High Commission who will then decide what steps to take.

Ada ke boleh main "Flashing-flashing" je ID bila polis mintak.. Dan polis yang periksa tu pon bodoh nak mampus.. Boleh terima cara macam tu tanpa sahkan dulu status perempuan tu..

Pada semalam, 28 Feb 2009 setelah hampir seminggu rakyat Malaysia dan Afrika Selatan disogokkan dengan berita palsu, barulah akhbar tempatan "The Sunday Times" menyiarkan penafian TYT Pesuruhjaya Tinggi dan mengakui kesilapan pihak Metro Police Johannesburg terhadap kejadian tersebut.. An alleged drunk driver who crashed into a parked vehicle last weekend and killed a 24-year old student, simply walked away after claiming to be the wife of a diplomat.

Now police and Johannesburg’s Metro Police are at odds to explain why the validity of the female driver’s claims were not tested before she was allowed to leave the scene of the accident in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg.

Fourth-year nursing student Adonis Ndudule died when the woman’s car hit his stationary Beetle at the side of the road.

While the metro police initially said the driver’s blood alcohol level could not be tested because she had diplomatic immunity, even though she may have been reckless, it now turns out they also failed to pick up that she was driving a car with fake number plates.

Metro police spokesman Inspector Edna Mamonyane initially said the driver was attached to the Malaysian embassy, but later admitted that this was never verified. They also failed to take down the details of a man who collected her, despite him “flashing” a diplomatic card at them.

On Friday, Malaysian high commissioner Kennedy Jawan said neither the car nor the woman was attached to the embassy. He said the police should have verified the information before putting it out.

The police have now launched an investigation into the accident and the circumstances around the female driver’s release. Honeydew police spokesman Inspector Karen Jacobs said metro police would have to explain why the driver, who did not have a diplomatic card, was not asked for any other form of identification, because the Department of Foreign Affairs had a 24-hour line through which this could have been checked.

Mamonyane said the woman could still be prosecuted for drunk driving and that both her and the mystery man could be charged for defeating the ends of justice.

Speaking at Ndudule’s funeral in Soweto yesterday, his uncle, Mshiyeni Sogoni, said the family hoped this case would be treated as a priority by the police.
